Volunteer

Our Commitment to Community Statement:
The Sharon Audubon Center welcomes, values, and relies on the contributions of volunteers at all levels of the organization. Volunteers work in partnership with paid staff to maintain a safe environment for humans and wildlife, share their stories about birds and bird conservation, create trusting relationships with our non-releasable resident wildlife, and provide critical rehabilitative care to injured and orphaned birds throughout Connecticut. Our volunteers are the heartbeat of the Sharon Audubon Center's work.
Check out the exciting volunteer opportunities below. If you are interested in learning more, please email Volunteer Coordinator/Naturalist Bethany Sheffer. Volunteers under the age of 13 must be supervised at all times by an adult during their shift(s).
What’s the Process for Getting Started?
  • Email the Volunteer Coordinator with your interest in volunteering with us.
  • The Volunteer Coordinator will set up a day and time to meet with you and discuss your volunteer interests in more detail. The meeting format is flexible and can be done via phone, Zoom, or in person.
  • Once you’re matched with a volunteer position, the Volunteer Coordinator will communicate with the respective department head and facilitate a start date for you.
  • Either on or before your first volunteer day, the Volunteer Coordinator will send you the necessary forms that will allow you to volunteer with us. Please note that the National Audubon Society requires applicants to undergo a criminal background check.
  • All volunteers are required to attend an orientation during their volunteer experience, though not necessarily before beginning their volunteerism with us. The Volunteer Coordinator will contact you when the next orientation takes place.
