Landscaping with Natives: How to Foster Healthy Bird Populations and Ecosystems

April 01, 2023 - Sharon, CT

Natives are for the birds! Literally. And with spring just around the corner, what better to consider planting than something that helps provide juicy caterpillars, nectar, and/or berries for our beloved backyard birds? Join local native plant expert and champion, Mike Nadeau, in a discussion about the need for natives in our landscapes, and how exactly they support our local bird populations. You won’t want to miss this opportunity!

All participants will leave with a detailed list of local native plant nurseries as well as a potted native plant to take home (and plant in their yard!).

Horticulturalist Mike Nadeau has spent his career creating natural spaces that support wildlife.  Nadeau has an MS from the University of Maine in Plant and Soil Science and is an instructor in NOFA’s 5-day organic professional land care accreditation course. A published writer, Mike is a designer and builder of ecological landscapes including wetlands, meadows and woodlands.  He has worked with CT town conservation and inland wetland commissions of Fairfield, Darien, Westport, Stamford, New Canaan, and Wilton to improve water quality in wetland habitats, restore native vegetation in both upland and bottomland environments, and develop long-term conventional and organic land care programs.
