Nature Scavenger Hunt

Attention northwestern Connecticut residents—get ready for some outdoor summertime fun!

You're invited to take part in the Nature Scavenger Hunt! A collaboration between Sharon Audubon Center and several regional Parks & Recreation Departments, this exciting four-week activity is designed to provide participants with a fun discovery experience in their own town, as well as in surrounding towns.

Beginning July 5, 2020, participants will be supplied with a different themed “scavenger hunt” to complete and turn into their individual town’s Parks & Recreation Director. Missions will include finding and identifying different types of birds, habitats, animal signs, nocturnal animals, and more, with different levels of difficulty for beginners, intermediate, and advanced. There will also be a “bonus hunt” available, which will include detailed questions specific to things found at Sharon Audubon Center.

Participants are also encouraged to take photographs of what they find and share them with their Parks & Recreation Department, for an opportunity for their findings to be featured by the Parks & Recreation Department and Sharon Audubon Center online.

At the end of the four-week hunt, each town's Parks & Recreation Director will share the results and participant acknowledgments. Each participant will be invited to a Zoom meeting where Directors will also report special and unique findings within the different towns, and a surprise “guest” from the Sharon Audubon Center may be present. Prizes will also be awarded to those who complete all four weeks of the scavenger hunt activities, as well as special individual awards.

Program Fee: FREE and open to everyone residing in the 12 participating towns (see list below)
