Ducks and Healthy Wetlands: Enjoying and Advocating for Both
Saturday, March 01, 2025
10:30am - 12:00pm Eastern Sharon, Connecticut

Location Details
99 West Cornwall Road, Sharon, 06069, CT
Turn into the sanctuary off of West Cornwall Road and continue driving along the narrow dirt entrance road. You will pass a stone house on your right, and then a large red house again on your right. Continue driving up a small hill that terminates in a small parking area. You will see a kiosk and a garage and administrative building. We will meet in this parking area.

Hooded Mergansers and Wood Ducks, affectionately known to birders as “Hoodies” and “Woodies”, are inarguably Connecticut’s most decorative and charismatic breeding ducks. They’re colorful, animated, and are part of a very small cohort of cavity nesting ducks in the state. They’re also denizens of healthy wetland ecosystems here in the Northeast. Join Sharon Audubon Center naturalist, Bethany Sheffer, along with Robin Zitter, Sharon Inland Wetland’s Commissioner, in an exploration-based outdoor program that will teach you the features of a healthy wetland, why they’re important, and how you can be an advocate for both where you live. Plus, you’ll get a front row seat to a showing of dynamic ducks!
